Cryptic Vision
Cryptic Vision is a 5-piece symphonic progressive-rock band from Tampa
Bay, Florida. Their music has been described as complex and very
challenging. They have a feel of early seventies progressive rock that has
been compared to early Kansas and Yes. The beautiful harmonies the
extraordinary keyboard playing along with the uplifting music will be sure
to cascade your attention when they hit the stage at ROSfest in 2005. This
band could very well be the next big thing in prog.
HISTORY
Cryptic Vision is a progressive rock band from Florida. Their style has been
compared to such groups as Yes, Kansas, Spock's Beard, Rush, Pink Floyd,
Echolyn and Saga. Moments of Clarity, the debut album from Cryptic Vision
was primarily a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist / songwriter
Rick Duncan and vocalist Todd Plant. They have been working together on
various projects since the late 80's. Both Plant and Duncan had also worked
on previous projects with keyboardist / guitarist Robert Van Dyne who
contributed one of the songs on Moments. Other contributors of note include
former Kansas violinist David Ragsdale, former Zon/ Ian Hunter keyboardist
Howard Helm. Guitarist Ralph Santolla (Eyewitness/ Millenium/Iced Earth) and
former Neurotica members Shawn Bowen and Kelly Shaefer (Ozzfest tour '02).
As the owner of Paradox City Recording Studio, Duncan has engineered and
produced numerous local and national artists such as AC/DC's Brian Johnson,
Neurotica, and The Chase Theory. He plays drums, keyboards, bass and guitar.
He is also a very prolific songwriter. Plant has worked with former members
of the Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Steely Dan, and sang Hulk Hogan's theme
song that was heard by millions for many years on cable networks. He's also
well known in AOR circles as the front man for Eyewitness and Millenium.
Cryptic Vision will soon be starting tracks for their second album
tentatively titled "In A World". Plans for 2005 tour are also in the works.
The live lineup will include Plant (lead vocals) Duncan (drums and
keyboards) along with new members John Zahner (keyboards, vocals) Matt La
Porte (guitar, vocals) and Sam Conable (bass, vocals) Both John and Matt
played in Circle II Circle and The Jon Oliva Project. Zahner was also the
keyboardist for Stienhardt Moon and Stormbringer.
