First formed in Mexico City in 1992 under the name RADIO SILENCE, the
band quickly gained a growing cult following but was unable to gain label
support due to their style and unwillingness to compromise.
After disbanding in 1994, founding members Andres Aullet, Ricardo Gomez
and Luis Nasser moved to the USA and released a demo in 1998 entitled
LAUGHTER IN THE DARK that earned the band rave reviews in the progrock
underground and a record contract with Moonchild records for worldwide
distribution. Confronted by another band that operated with the same name (and
had trademarked it!), the band decided to rename itself as SONUS UMBRA
(the sound of shadow), and set upon recording a new album after recruiting
Jeff Laramee of KURGAN’S BANE on drums. The result was SNAPSHOTS
FROM LIMBO, released worldwide by the French label Musea in 2001 after the
untimely demise of Brian Hirsch, president and owner of Moonchild. This album
consolidated their reputation among proglodytes all over the world, and shows
the band developing their unique phantasmagoria of light and dark, blending
the acoustic and electric into a sound that is equally rooted in the heavy
crunch of Black Sabbath and King Crimson, and in the melodic melancholy of
Pink Floyd and Marillion.
Following the success of Snapshots From Limbo, the band is back with a new
album called SPIRITUAL VERTIGO which offers a heavier, angrier
collection of music for those who like to delve into groove, melody and
angst-filled lyrics.
